Whoever built the retaining wall for our yard, it’s an utter POS. I finally got around to patching some holes. Also drilled out a sagging gutter, where nothing was able to reach the downspout, collecting and breeding mosquitoes.

I’m considering a run up to Hawks Nest tomorrow, but it’s super late notice. Expect a big meetup email coming soon!

Lately I’ve just been mowing my lawn, pulling some weeds; ignoring the truth, hoping my actual house doesn’t fall apart.

Having grown up in the construction industry, I’ve learned that most houses are built like crap, and most people who work on houses are really just unemployable idiots.

Ours is nearing the 10-year mark when all of the cheap appliances and shoddy work start to fail. Our a/c has frozen up a couple of times over the past few weeks, so I just had the a/c guy out thursday to look at it. He thinks it was leaking out of the high-pressure side access fitting. There was oil and crud inside the cap. If we are lucky, the new fitting will hold and the system will last a few more years. If not, then we are looking at a new a/c unit this summer.
I already bought a new faucet to replace the leaky outside faucet, which is really no surprise given that the one the builder used was made to be used as a boiler drain, not an outside faucet. Of course, my wife is talking about replacing the other faucets in the house and the stove is looking kinda ragged and the refrigerator is over 15 years old and has its own set of issues and the side yard needs to be reworked to drain properly and the garden needs to be weeded and it’s time to recaulk the showers and ....

It’s a never-ending battle. Don’t get me wrong — there are still some quality builders out there today, but you really got to sift through the large quantities of shit.
